Creating a Morning Ritual to Guide Your Journey

Wellness

As we move through the year, we look to find new ways of positioning ourselves for growth as individuals. Our approach to each day can affect how we show up for ourselves, our family, friends and colleagues. How we begin our morning is vital to the rest of the day. A morning ritual can be one way to center yourself for the day ahead.

What is a morning ritual?

A Ritual is a sequence of activities that is repeated with regularity. Having ritual and routine built into each day can help us feel grounded and connect with ourselves, and our space. A morning ritual does exactly this! Before the hustle and bustle of the day sets in, our mornings can be the only sacred space we have in our day. Utilizing this opportunity when we first wake up for the day is a great way to ensure we fill our cup before we even begin to think about serving others.

How do I create my own?

A ritual practice is going to be as unique as you are! It is important to make it your own. There is no right way or wrong way to set up a practice. Not everyone’s ritual will include journaling and meditation, but yours might! Start by making a list of activities that you can build into your morning routine that feel nourishing. This can be a 5 minute practice you do right when you wake up, or some things you do throughout the morning. Making the “everyday” feel sacred can be a great way to craft your daily practice. Even small tasks such as doing the dishes and making your bed can be considered a ritual if those tasks help you focus. If you are feeling overwhelmed at the idea of creating a ritual, take some time to think about what existing tasks or practices naturally relax and reset your nervous system.

When should I get started?

A ritual can begin whenever you feel ready! After you’ve spent time thinking through what your morning ritual will look like, and gathering any supporting items that may be needed, pencil in a start date on your calendar to hold yourself accountable. Creating a routine takes time so give yourself grace as it may be more challenging than you anticipate. Some days may be harder than others, but stick with it! If you miss a day here and there, don’t give up. Commit to doing your morning ritual practice for one month and then re-evaluate how you are feeling.

Why should I make a morning ritual?

Because you are worth it! We know that you give so much to others and the day can slip away without having time for yourself. Make yourself a priority by creating a routine that is special and nourishing to you first thing in the day. You deserve to have time spent in activity that feels sacred to you.

At Grow & Gather, our goal is to support women in moving toward wellness and we know that a morning ritual is a great place to start. Still seeking inspiration and guidance? Download our Morning Ritual Workbook to get started on creating your very own practice today!
