Once in a Blue Moon

Wellness

This time of year—though honestly, it can feel true all year long—often arrives with a sense of urgency. Calendars fill quickly with things such as end-of-school celebrations, going on vacations, and planning summer camps. There seems to be a frenetic energy in the air, a collective “go, go, go” that sweeps us along before we’ve had a chance to catch our breath.

Almost overnight, we are pulled from the quieter rhythms of winter and spring and launched headfirst into the warm, exciting momentum of summer. Suddenly we find ourselves wondering: How did we get here already? How is it possible that the year feels both brand new and nearly halfway over?

If you’re reading this today, I have a simple invitation for you.

Pause for a moment—whatever day, season, or chapter of life you find yourself in—and ask yourself: What could happen once in a blue moon?

On May 31st, we are gifted a rare Blue Moon. Traditionally, a Blue Moon is known as the second full moon occurring within a calendar month, a celestial event that doesn’t happen often. Because of its rarity, it has long been associated with possibility, wonder, and the kinds of opportunities that feel just beyond the boundaries of everyday life.

There is something magical about rare moments. They interrupt our routines and invite us to see ourselves differently. A Blue Moon asks us to consider a question we don’t often make space for:

What if more is possible than I currently believe?

Rather than focusing on limitations, obligations, or carefully managed expectations, this lunar energy encourages expansion. It invites us to loosen our grip on what we think should happen and become curious about what could happen.

What dream have you quietly tucked away because it seemed impractical?

What desire have you dismissed because the timing wasn’t right?

What possibility have you convinced yourself is too ambitious or too unlikely?

The Blue Moon asks us to revisit those places within ourselves.

Not because every dream will instantly come true, but because there is power in allowing ourselves to dream again.

For me, I’ve been feeling the moon’s energy deeply. Emotions seem closer to the surface. Tears arrive more easily. Conversations with friends feel richer, more meaningful. There is a sense of reflection moving through the air, gently encouraging me to pay attention to what matters most.

Perhaps you’ve been feeling it too.

In a world that constantly asks us to produce, achieve, and move on to the next thing, we rarely stop to ask ourselves meaningful questions.

What am I dreaming about?

What am I hoping for?

What is the long shot that still lives quietly in my heart?

These questions matter.

Hope matters.

Dreaming matters.

So today, under the light of this rare moon, give yourself permission to wonder.

Ask yourself what expansion might look like.

What is the wildest dream you want to chase?

And maybe, just maybe,  it can happen once in a blue moon…
