Nature Connection

The irises of our eyes look like the swirl of a universe and the rings of trees look like our fingerprints – the connection between us and nature is undeniable. When the world becomes too much to bear, you can always come back to mother nature herself. You can sit beneath a tree and feel its strength. You can breathe in the fresh air and feel its life giving power. When you stand with your bare feet on the ground, you receive the energy of the earth; an energy that is healing. 

One of the best ways to reset your physiology and help yourself feel grounded, is to use what mother nature gave you! Your senses. So the next time you make a moment for yourself to go into nature (or stand barefeet in the grass in the yard), try this grounding exercise:

  • Look around and name 5 things you can see
  • Using your hands, name 4 things you can feel
  • Closing your eyes, name 3 things you can hear
  • Explore the space, name 2 things you can smell
  • Connect with nature, name 1 thing you can taste

If you have extra time after this practice, we encourage you to write down what came up during that grounding exercise! As with all mindfulness practice, this one gets easier the more you use it.
